Paris Saint-Germain survived a frustrating night of missed chances as Desiré Doué stepped up to score a stunning solo goal, securing a 1-0 victory over Brest at the Parc des Princes. The result leaves PSG needing just one draw from their final two matches to claim another Ligue 1 crown.
The defending champions dominated from the start, piling on 17 shots in the first hour compared to Brest’s two, but were repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Coudet and the woodwork. A powerful strike from Mayulu rattled the crossbar, while disbelief crept onto Luis Enrique’s face as the score remained 0-0 deep into the second half.
With a quarter of an hour left, Doué took matters into his own hands. Collecting the ball on the left flank, he drove infield to the edge of the box and unleashed a perfect right-footed shot that flew into the net, sparking wild celebrations from the Spanish coach on the sideline.
Luis Enrique had made sweeping changes to his starting eleven after Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final triumph over Bayern Munich. Only Marquinhos and Fabián Ruiz kept their places, while 19-year-old goalkeeper Renato Marín made his debut under heavy rain. The match was briefly halted early in the second half due to smoke from flares in the stands.
PSG have two opportunities to seal the title. First, they travel to second-placed Lens on Wednesday, and then face Paris FC next Sunday. A single point from either match will confirm their dominance in French football. With a six-point lead and only six points left to play for, the championship is all but assured.
