Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters, setting up a highly anticipated clash with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
In the Round of 16, the 12th-seeded Rublev defeated Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in a grueling match lasting 2 hours and 13 minutes.
The 28-year-old Russian, currently ranked 14th in the world, will now face Italy’s top-ranked Sinner in the quarterfinal. This marks Rublev’s first appearance in the Rome Masters quarterfinals since 2021.
Rublev, who holds 17 ATP titles and is the second-highest ranked Russian player, will look to continue his strong run in the Italian capital. The Rome Masters, with a prize pool of €8.235 million, is scheduled to conclude on May 17.
