Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has been named to Team Canada’s roster for the 2026 IIHF World Championship in Switzerland, as announced by Hockey Canada on social media.

Earlier this year, Crosby helped Canada claim a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Italy, where the team fell 2-1 in overtime to the United States in the gold medal game.
The 38-year-old forward brings a wealth of experience to the squad. He is a three-time Stanley Cup champion (2009, 2016, 2017), a World Champion (2015), and a two-time Olympic gold medalist (2010, 2014). In 2017, he was named one of the 100 greatest players in NHL history.
Crosby will be joined by a young leadership core. Nineteen-year-old San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini has been named team captain, with 35-year-old veterans Ryan O’Reilly (Nashville Predators) and John Tavares (Toronto Maple Leafs) serving as alternates.
The 2026 World Championship runs from May 15 to 31 in Zurich and Fribourg, Switzerland. Canada will compete in Group A against Czechia, Denmark, Italy, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Sweden during the preliminary round.
