FC Seoul returned to winning ways by defeating bottom-placed Gwangju FC 1-0 away at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium on May 12, in a match for the 14th round of the Hana Bank K League 1 2026 season. The victory ended a three-game winless streak for Seoul, who had recorded one draw and two losses in their previous three outings. With 29 points, Seoul cemented their grip on the top spot in the league table.

The gap between Seoul and second-placed Ulsan HD FC, who have played one fewer game, now stands at six points. This was also Seoul’s second win over Gwangju this season, following a 5-0 thrashing in their first meeting back in March.

For Gwangju, it was their ninth loss of the season, with the team now having gone four consecutive matches without scoring a single goal.

Seoul dominated the early stages of the match. In the 16th minute, Huise unleashed a powerful right-footed shot that struck the crossbar, while in the 33rd minute, Anderson broke through before firing straight at the goalkeeper. Gwangju tried to hold strong defensively and hit on the counter, but a major blow arrived in the 38th minute when veteran defender Ahn Young-kyu was carried off the field on a stretcher due to injury, severely disrupting their defensive setup.

Seoul came out firing at the start of the second half, making two attacking substitutions by sending on Son Min-kyu and Babetes. The change paid off almost immediately. In the 48th minute, Son connected with a header, and Huise met it with a right-footed, one-time volley to score the decisive goal. Seoul continued to push for more, bringing on Cho Young-wook, but no further goals followed.

Elsewhere on the same day, Pohang Steelers defeated Incheon United FC 1-0 away thanks to a penalty kick by Lee Ho-jae in the 41st minute of the first half. The win extended Pohang’s unbeaten streak to four matches, lifting them to fourth place with 22 points. Incheon saw their winning run come to an end, remaining in sixth place.
