Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez, aged 39, will not be part of Uruguay’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to renowned Uruguayan journalist and insider Rodri Vasquez on X. The source confirms that Suarez was not included in the preliminary extended list for the tournament, meaning the nation’s all-time top scorer will not have a “last dance” on the global stage.
Earlier reports indicated that Suarez, who ended his international career in September 2024, had expressed willingness to help the national team if needed. However, the decision has now been made official.
Uruguay will face Spain, Cape Verde, and Saudi Arabia in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. Suarez remains Uruguay’s all-time leading scorer with 69 goals for the national team. He helped his country win the Copa America in 2011 and finished fourth at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
