LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers are mutually interested in extending their partnership, according to The Athletic’s Dan Woike. Despite being 41 years old and wrapping up his 23rd NBA season, James has shown he remains a winning player, Woike noted.
Team and league sources indicate that both James and the Lakers are keen to continue their collaboration. Lakers executives Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss have previously expressed hopes that James would finish his career with the franchise.
However, the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers could attempt to lure the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, especially if James senses the Lakers are moving in a different direction without him.
According to sources, James’ outlook has shifted positively following a strong late-season run, including the Lakers’ impressive 15-2 record in March. Winning has made James more inclined to stay in Los Angeles, and the Lakers’ front office also wants to retain him, aiming to build the roster around James and Luka Doncic.
