Yuki Matsui made another impressive appearance, pitching two scoreless innings in his second game since returning from injury. The San Diego Padres reliever entered as the fourth pitcher in a 6-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field on Saturday.
Taking the mound in the seventh inning with his team trailing 6-3, Matsui allowed a double to left field to Jake Bauers with two outs, but then struck out Garrett Mitchell swinging on a slider. In the eighth inning, he retired the side in order with a swinging strikeout, a foul pop to third, and a pop foul behind home plate.
Matsui sustained a left adductor strain during live batting practice in spring training, forcing him to withdraw from the World Baseball Classic and begin the season on the injured list. After completing his rehabilitation, he made his major league return on May 8 against the St. Louis Cardinals, pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts while allowing three hits.
